Carriage House, East Hampton +
A request for an entirely new landscape on a site of over two-and-a-half acres called for an array of techniques and visual rhythms. The central logic of the project is governed by the scale and formality of the main house. To support the structure’s symbolic and practical lives, a formal motor court with port cochere was created, as was a service parking area. These are integrated into the wider property using a variety of staggered plantings. The new pool is Gunite, with bluestone coping and terrace. A cutting garden provides a distinctive, gentle sanctuary within the more formalized wider site. At the property’s rear, a woodland garden serves as both a buffer and as yet another specific space for reflection.
