East Hollow +
A custom-built East Hampton home provided a blank slate and a fresh start—but came with challenges. Privacy from both road and neighboring houses was enhanced with stockade fencing and privet. At the property’s rear, existing vegetation was preserved and augmented, with a pleasing site continuity maintained. Within, a fieldstone wall creates a garden space featuring a mix of Magnolia, Virginiana, Boxwood, Hydrangea, and perennials. An antique hand-chiseled bluestone walkway marks entry to the house. Bluestone also surrounds the pool. Its further use for an additional terrace is modulated by the use of grass joints. The effect is to create ordered space free of excessive hardscape. Completed 2011
