Design that is strong, balanced, functional. That is elemental in conception and refined in execution. Design that starts with the client and that honors the spectacular natural blessings and the ecology of Eastern Long Island. It is our great privilege to shape some of the world’s most beautiful and most treasured places. Our work springs from a reverence for the gentle power of plants and trees and from a sense of how the “home” of a property encompasses and weaves spaces both interior and exterior. In turn, we can offer a collaboration that draws on the disciplines of horticulture, art, architecture, and engineering; one that is lifted by the passion of a love affair with the East End that now spans two decades. Our partnerships with clients remain always the defining creative engine in conception and planning. And that same spirit of partnership guides a maintenance philosophy that is both measured and highly responsive, a relationship to people and place that celebrates evolution, adaptation, and the cycles of these beautiful Long Island seasons.

At Landscape Details, we use only the finest materials, and work with the most sophisticated craftsmen so that each project we complete is aesthetically pleasing and “Hamptons caliber.” Custom designed or from your plans.

A healthy, well-maintained landscape begins with irrigation. This is why Landscape Details now provides irrigation installation and maintenance. Properly designed irrigation systems are well balanced, to ensure the system will provide the appropriate amount of water for healthy lawn and plant growth. Our team is experienced in all phases of irrigation, from design and installation to ongoing maintenance. Our irrigation team monitors each system throughout each season, spring start-up through summer monthly visits, and finally the winterization.

Because each property is unique, we maintain and monitor your system and make sure it is performing to its maximum potential and distributing the correct amount of water to the right area at the right time. Our program is the most effective way to reduce wasted water and improve plant health.

At Landscape Details we use lighting to extend the pleasure of your landscape well into the evening hours, enhance mood and heighten awareness of the environment. We install low voltage lighting systems and line voltage systems as the landscape is being installed, or we can retro-fit lighting to an existing landscape with minimal disturbance.

Tree Farm

For over 25 years, Michael Derrig has been selecting plant materials from the finest tree farms and nurseries throughout the United States. His knowledge of trees, shrubs and plants is vast and his aesthetic for plants is held in high regard. Now he has opened his own tree farm, in an ongoing effort to offer his discerning clientele uncompromising quality and hard to find plants.

Landscape Details Tree Farm spans 25-acres in Calverton, NY. Cultivating specialty plant material enables us to offer mature specimens and highly sought after trees and plants that would otherwise take years to develop. At Landscape Details Tree Farm we are growing specimens as varied as: Hornbeam and Beech hedges, Pleached Lindens, Hornbeam’s and Plane Trees. We expect they will be available in the near future. Owner Michael Derrig has been collecting plants over the course of the past 10 years and is gratified to now have this tree farm so he can share them.

At Landscape Details Tree Farm, our skilled nursery crew ensures each and every tree and shrub is given the best level of care daily, so every specimen is healthy and thriving. You are welcome to tour our nursery.

Flower Gardens

Within the broad sweep of a landscape, the flower garden can offer potent opportunity for expression and for the definition of a property. Whether a garden is a destination, a boundary, or a border, garden composition is one of the most creatively rewarding aspects of the overall design realization. The rich soil and the gentle climate of the East End offer clients wide latitude for choices and opportunities. In response, our training allows us to draw on an array of European and Japanese garden traditions and a plant palette that runs from Peonies to Succulents. It’s a process that adds crowning and memorable refinements to any signature outdoor space.
